Happy Anniversary to Us!

Today, David and I celebrate eight amazing years of marriage.  We have had many highs and some lows, but we have seen the Lord's hand in our marriage every step of the way.  I couldn't imagine going through this life with anyone other than my David.  We have grown so much as individuals and as a couple over the last eight years.

When we got married, we were 22 years old, fresh out of college.  So in love (still are).  We moved to New Orleans two days after we got back from our honeymoon to a place where the only people we knew were each other.  I think it was the best thing that we could have done for our marriage.  We learned to depend on each other and the Lord and nothing else.  We bought our first place in New Orleans...a little tiny condo in the Warehouse District.  I do mean tiny...like 800 sq. feet.  But, we had a blast.  We walked together to work everyday and we would meet after work for dinner at a little place called Lucy's.  They had $1.00 tacos on Mondays, $2.50 nachos on Tuesdays and $2.50 wings on Wednesdays.  I don't know if we ate on Thursdays.  But, on Fridays, we'd go out to a fancy restaurant with friends.  Almost every Saturday, we went to the little market down the street and got fresh seafood to cook and then on Sundays we went to church.  We loved our little church so much.  It was there that we really learned about freedom from the law and that Christ came to set us free, not to bind us by the law.  I learned so much about grace and learned to walk in grace for the first time in my life.  I was no longer grossly judgmental of every person I met.    We loved every minute of being newlyweds.

So much has changed since those days...our days our now filled with our sweet Sam and Jacob and all that they demand of us.  We don't walk to work anymore...we kiss goodbye with two little boys waving at their daddy.  We don't go to Lucy's for dinner, but Sherry's.  We don't often eat at fancy restaurants, but at Cafe Express and Jason's.  But, we still try our hardest to walk in grace.  We still know that Christ came to set us free.  We still love each other more than we could imagine.  And, we still depend on each other and on the Lord.   I'm so thankful for the way that the Lord has grown us and changed us.  Making us more other-centered instead of self-centered (kids alone did that) and making us want the best for each other.  We pray together  more, we cherish the alone moments that we get more and we see the best in each other more than we did in those 800 sq. feet.

Thank you, Lord for eight years!  We are so grateful for your hand in our marriage and look forward to all that You have for us!
